An explosion with Nordecke Brass

The Nordecke Brass section has no scores. There are no rehearsals, no essays and no director.

  • The only missions for these musicians from Columbus Crew? Take off and have fun.

Trumpet news: Luke Johnston, a veteran Nordecke Brass player, invited Tyler to play in last Saturday’s game against the New York Red Bulls.

Inventory: The Crew’s unofficial fan group includes a rotating group of players in the Nordecke fan section. Members play section songs in the middle of a row of drummers.

  • These songs include offshoots of Yankee Doodle Dandy, We’re Not Gonna Take It and Yellow Submarine (“We all support a yellow football team …”).

Tyler’s thought bubble: It took me a while to familiarize myself with the vocals, but I had a lot of fun. There is nothing quite like watching a Crew du Nordecke match.

  • My favorite moment was the crew’s sole objective, followed by a full minute of heckling and random notes.

Unfortunately, the crew lost the match, 2-1.

Tyler’s plans to be back next season for a few more games.
