Late Friday night (November 19), Britney Spears posted a video of Christina Aguilera ending a question about her, and she criticized her fellow pop star for “refusing to speak” on her behalf.
In the video, posted to Spears’ Instagram story, Aguilera is surrounded by reporters outside Thursday night’s Latin Grammys in Las Vegas and asked, “Britney – did you have a communication, did you have any communication? a communication?” Aguilera’s publicist steps in and says, “We’re not doing that,” with Aguilera making an apologetic face and ringing, regarding the end of her fellow pop star’s 13-year tutelage, “But I’m really happy for her. ! “
In a message posted to the video, Spears wrote: “I love and adore everyone who has supported me… but refusing to speak when you know the truth is a lie !!!! 13 years in a corrupt, abusive system, but why is this such a difficult subject for people to discuss ??? It was I who went through there !!!! All the supporters who spoke and supported me thank you… Yes I count !!!!!
Spears followed up on Aguilera’s video with a clip of Lady Gaga on the Gucci House first red carpet, addressing Spears’ situation. “The way she was treated in this business was really bad. And the way women are treated in the music industry is something I want to change. I think she will be an inspiration to women forever.
Of Gaga’s video, Spears writes, “Thanks @ladygaga for really taking your time to say something so sweet. You made me cry !!! I love you !!!”
On social media, Aguilera fans point out that Christina actually spoke for Spears, when she posted a Twitter thread in June following the pop star’s devastating testimony to end her tutelage. “It is unacceptable that a woman, or a human, wanting to control their own destiny is not allowed to live the way they want,” Aguilera tweeted on June 28 with a return photo of the couple as a child. She concluded the thread by writing: “I promise you she deserves all the freedom she can to live her happiest life. My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.
Spears and Aguilera have had parallel careers since getting their big break on the Disney Channel The brand new Mickey Mouse Club in the early 90s. They also took their groundbreaking singles to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, topping the teen charts in 1999 with “… Baby One More Time” and “Genie in a Bottle”, respectively. They also joined Madonna on stage at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards to pay tribute to the Queen of Pop’s VMA performance “Like a Virgin” and shared a threesome kiss.
