Sriya Lenka aka Shreya Lenka from the Indian state of Odisha has made headlines after becoming the first ever K-pop star. The popularity of the Korean entertainment industry is skyrocketing around the world. From boy band BTS to top-watched shows like Squid Game, Korean content is today’s generation’s favorite thing. 18-year-old Lenka who was cast as the fifth member of K-pop girl group ‘Blackswan’ recently returned to India. Talking about her life-changing moment, Lenka revealed how she could make it to the popular girl group.
Sriya Lenka has been selected in a global audition held by South Korean music label DR Music Entertainment to add members to world-renowned multinational girl group Blackswan, which already has K-pop idols. of Brazil and Belgium outside of South Korea. Along with Sriya, Gabriela Dalcin from Brazil was also selected in the 6-month audition process.
Sriya eventually developed an interest in the genre after watching a few Korean music videos, she had to clear several selection rounds to get through the whole process.
“When DR music announced auditions, all studios were closed due to COVID. I had to practice dancing on my roof. I was selected for the first round, then I focused on improving in my voice. I started to learn Hindustani classic in Rourkela with the help of my grandmother. For the third round, we had to go to Korea but no flights were available due to the closure. But my company helped me a lot,” she told ANI.

Blackswan is a multinational K-pop girl group who debuted in 2020 under Korean music label DR Music Entertainment with full album Goodbye Rania, followed by their debut single album Close to Me in 2021.
Currently, the group consists of four members, including its Korean leader and singer Go Young Heun (Youngheun), Belgium-based Senegalese singer-rapper-model Fatou Samba (Fatou), Korean singer-dancer Kim Da Hye (Judy) and Brazilian maknae-Japanese singer Larissa Ayumi Cartes Sakata (Leia).
